In the last few years lung cancer has been the most frequent type of cancer meaning that over 1,3 million people have been diagnosed each year with new cases of lung cancer and the number seems to increase even more . Also the largest number of deaths registered because of a type cancer, has been the number of lung cancer patients with over 1 million deaths each year . There are not so many causes of lung cancer but some of them are extremely terrible but first let’s see what are the lung cancer causes : asbestos , viruses , particulate matter but also radon gas but these causes are responsible for only 5 or 10 per cent of the total cases of lung cancer ; there is only one main cause that is responsible for the majority of lung cancer causes meaning for about 90 or even 95 per cent and this cause is smoking .

Smoking is one of the activities which is very often chosen by people and they do not understand that the people who smoke and which are called the smokers but also the people who do not smoke but inhale smoke from people who smoke or from the air were there is a large amount of smoke all of them present the risk of developing lung cancer . This type of risks has been outlined also by statistics which showed that the risk of getting lung cancer is different from man to woman but also from smoker to non smoker : men who smoke develop a lifetime risk of 17.2% and women a risk of 11.6% and for non-smokers men have a lifetime risk of lung cancer of 1.3% and women of 1.4% .

Although the lung cancer causes can be resumed to only smoking the number of smokers has not come down because they tobacco companies have managed to convince more and more people to smoke and many of them did not quit to smoke although there have been made a great number of warnings, of campaigns that showed that smoking is a real and bad factor for the development of lung cancer people prefer to close their eyes and to ignore these things and they keep going on with smoking and not to pay attention to the real risk that smoking represents for their health and also for the health of the people around them .

Cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco are made from dried tobacco leaves, but contain other ingredients for flavor. Over 4000 known chemicals have been identified in tobacco and cigarette smoke. Of these, over 60 are known as carcinogenic. Such as:

-Tar - viscous liquid containing most of carcinogens
-Benzene - Industrial solvent, which comes from crude oil
-Arsenic - known mainly as the cause of skin cancer and lung. It appears that arsenic from tobacco leaves is one of the major carcinogens in cigarettes.
-Cadmium - used to manufacture batteries
-Formaldehyde - used to hold corpses
-Polonium-210 - radioactive element
-Chromium - used for the manufacture of paints and alloys
-1,3-butadiene - used rubber manufacturing
-Polycyclic - aromatic hydrocarbons
-Acrolein - last used as chemical weapons

Most dangerous substances in tobacco smoke are found in low levels. But over the months and years, it accumulates, reaching high amounts in the body. For this reason, the risk of cancer and other diseases increases with the amount of tobacco consumed daily and the number of years the person smokes.

In the early 1960s, researchers of a large American tobacco companies have made a disturbing discovery: Smoking can cause lung cancer. In public company claimed that cigarettes were 100% safe ( "healthy"). Behind closed doors, their men of science have sought ways to remove components causing cancer (carcinogens) in cigarettes.

As even a show of their documents, searching for cigarettes "healthy" was a failure from the start. The researchers found that burning tobacco produces a stunning collection of hazardous chemicals, regardless of how that increase is treated or packed. Simply put, the only cigarette "healthy" is one which does not come again.

Today, the secret was discovered. Everyone, starting with hospitals and to the high street child, knows that smoking causes lung cancer. In fact smoking causes most lung cancers, the disease that killed over 159,987 Americans in 2007. Specialists say that more than 80% of lung cancer cases are caused by smoking. Here's another way to highlight the danger: 30% of all cancers are directly attributable to smoking.

Even tobacco companies are now willing to admit the obvious. That is why now there is a label on all cigarette packages, saying "TOBACCO seriously harms your health" and there is also another label that is both comic and write some effects of excessive consumption of tobacco.

Health consequences of smoking are not limited to smokers. On the contrary, exposure to tobacco smoke - passive smoking - dramatically increasing the risk of lung cancer and heart disease among non-smokers, but also on the respiratory diseases in children.

Environmental tobacco smoke is the combination of main current (expired smoke of smoking) and secondary (smoke emanating from lit end of cigarette). Exposure to ambient smoke is called involuntary or passive smoking. Two thirds of the smoke emanating from a lit cigarette is not inhaled by the smoker, but are released into the air and contaminate the air. Thus, environmental tobacco smoke contains 2 times more nicotine and tar and 5 times more carbon monoxide than the smoke inhaled by the smoker.

There is no risk level for exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. Studies have shown that even low levels of smoke can be harmful. The only way to truly protect nonsmokers from exposure to tobacco smoke is full and definitive renunciation smoking in enclosed spaces. Separating smokers from nonsmokers, ventilation of rooms and ventilation can not completely eliminate exposure to cigarette smoke.

Uncontrolled growth of cells in the tissue of the lungs causes the disease called lung cancer. The most common symptoms of the disease are coughing, including coughing up blood, shortness of breath, and loss of weight. To help prevent acquiring the disease it is essential to learn about the general facts on lung cancer.

The data shows that lung cancer is responsible for 29 percent of the deaths among the various type of cancer.

Lung Cancer Causes

As you would probably think, smoking, mostly of cigarettes, is by far the main factor that leads to lung cancer. Statistics show that almost 90 percent of deaths are related to smoking. Cigarette smoke contains up t 60 dangerous substances and the immune response to malignant growth is diminished by nicotine. If you are not a smoker you should also be careful, as passive smoking, the inhalation of smoke by being close to a smoker, is also o cause of the lung cancer and some studies have showed that it could be even more dangerous than active smoking.

Another cause of the lung cancer that is being researched by specialists is the genetic factor. When in the DNA cells appears an error that can be affected by environmental factors it can lead to lung cancer. For instance extensive exposure to asbestos is one environmental factor which causes the disease. The asbestos is a mineral composed of bundled up fibers and when these fibers get inhaled by a person causes an inflammation on the lungs.

Lung Cancer Symptoms

One of the general facts on lung cancer that you should be aware of is symptoms:
Dyspnea or shortage of breath
Dysphonia or hoarse voice
Dysphagia when you have difficulties in swallowing
Hemoptysis when you are coughing up blood
Prolonged chest and abdomen pain
Uncharacteristic wheezing

Note that some of these symptoms can be caused by pneumonia or other infections, but if you experience one or more of them it is advised to consult a doctor. When you experience these symptoms the first step your doctor will take is to perform a chest radiograph to determine if you contacted the disease. Additional steps to determine the presence of lung cancer are bronchoscopy or CT-guided biopsy to provide the necessary information.

Lung Cancer Treatment

Before undergoing a treatment it is necessary to determine the stage of the cancer. There are four stages of the disease, from IA (one A), which is the best prognosis to IV (four), which is the worst prognosis.

For those diagnosed in the first stage the method of treatment is surgery.
For patients that have small cell lung cancer the recommended treatment is chemotherapy.
For patients who had surgery and the tumor was removed the treatment is radiotherapy.

The most efficient way to fight the lung cancer is of course prevention. Cutting off cigarettes smoking is the first and most important step to prevent this terrible disease.
